Synopsis

Jay is a nineteen year old girl who lives in a calm US suburb, enjoys his adolescence dating guys and hanging out with her sister and friends. Jay knows a guy which she likes but she doesn't get to imagine how his life will change at the moment she has sex with him.

My comment

It follows the movie by David Robert Mitchell is a Horror film (which by the way is one of my favorite genders as you will realize with time) that left me a little confused because I knew it had something striking but still it didn't convince me totally, and after watching it twice I have the same opinion... It is an excellent idea that wasn't exploited good enough. Although in all, it is not so bad and in fact it scared me several times which is what you expect from a horror movie, but "It follows" even has one more thing to consider... It changes a little the common way to scare. Besides it is the kind of movie that after seeing it you can find yourself looking every corner and waiting for something to appear, this is a similar situation to what is caused by Paranormal Activity or at least the first one.

Here are the reasons why I think it could be better made and also what I liked about the movie.

The positives

- A change in the point of view and the paranoia generated by it. The movie doesn't hides the source of terror and creates the possibility for it come from anywhere.

- Something to highlight are the planes showing the constant expectancy of the followed person.

- It plays with the camera perspective because there are moments in which you can see the thing who follows Jay. And in other moments you can't see it from Jay's friends perspective.

- Special mention to the school scene.

- There is a nice detail, the guy at the beginning tells Jay that it can take the shape of a known person ant that feeds the constant fear to the posibility that one of his friends could be it.

The negatives

- There are some mistakes in the plot: the thing doesn't dies and they keep trying to kill it, plus Jay's mother situation is never explained, why she never cares about his daughter and what she is doing. Another issue is at the end of the movie when she clearly gives in herself for this thing to kill her.

- The dumb ending, it is not logic that after seeing others die and knowing the damage it can do, the admirer wants to sacrifice for his loved one, it's just too stupid and I find it naive.

- It's very typical the scene in wich she is left alone in the first floor after hearing a window breaking.

- The thing is supposed to be always walking but in the movie theater scene the guy says it is standing which, again is not logic, and besides he only sees it when is his turn and that's why I think this is a forced way to bring in the suspense.

- Jay never showed any interest in why that happened or how to stop it, conversely she tried to kill it without knowing if that was posible and even whe she saw that it didn't worker she kept trying.

- Visual effects were not so good
