It is altogether a very interesting movie which though is sorted out as horror movie and at the beginning it seems to be so. Then, its aim to scare or generate the common atmospheres known in this gender is not too clear. Thus, the moments I really got to experience fear where few and certainly I’m not talking about those which are made for that specific function within the plot. Nevertheless, I wonder if the movie was meant to cause what I experienced, because the film as I see it, intends to go further away from being mere horror. That’s why sometimes it presents scenes nearer to an action movie or even causes great intrigue in the viewer with elements appearing outside the main situation which occurs to a group of students in the cabin.

However, even though is not meant to scare, this movie really manages to make something different than that proposed by films in this gender in general when setting the also curious situation in which in certain way mocks of stereotyped scripts about cabins in the woods. Achieves this by showing a meta-plot (if I can name it that way) in which everything shall occur to the typical teenager group formed by a sexually active blonde, some drug consumers, sportsmen and some other. Then, as I was saying, the world appears to be controlled by a really serious-minded organization that want one single thing, that is, to save the world from totally evil gods that used to rule it in earlier times, and to pull off that they have to sacrifice these innocent young people in something like a reality show.

Definitely, everything posed by “The cabin in the woods” through many elements such as the very one cabin in the woods, the stereotyped group described before, and in the other hand a whole underlying story not intended to scare, make a sarcastic vision of the stupidities made by characters in a horror film, and that’s why even if at the beginning you start to wait for the screamers and the blonde to die before or after having sex, later on you realize that it is way more interesting than the typical worn out plot about boys assaulted by some random-picked kind of monster.
